President Bhandari issues Medical Education Ordinance

The medical education ordinance that the government promised to Dr. Govinda KC has come into effect after authentication by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday. The ordinance was delayed due to legal consultations, Sushil Pyakurel, political advisor of the President said.   The ordinance places a 10-year ban for establishing new medical colleges in Kathmandu valley, restrict universities from issuing affiliations to more than five medical colleges and other provisions in line with recommendations made by the Mathema task force.

Bibeksheel Sajha publicizes political manifesto

Bibeksheel Sajha Party (BSP) publicized its political commitment, as well as a pocket book on corruption at the premises of Dharahara today. The booklet highlights underlying reasons of corruption in politics and society, briefly lists major corruption scams of Nepal; cost incurred and involved parties. One of the supporters of BSP argued that the booklet would educate citizens on major corruption issues and equally support BSP in its election campaign.  Rabindra Mishra, the party’s coordinator urged voters not to be skeptical to vote BSP as they have plans, policies and ethics to propel Nepal’s development.

President Bhandari honors former President Yadav 

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has decorated former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav with the 'Jana Aandolan Swarna Padaka (gold medal), 2074' on the occasion of the 103rd birth anniversary of the late Ganesh Man Singh, the commander of the Jana Aandolan or People's Movement. The former President was honored for his contributions in the peace process, fostering unity between the Himal, Pahad and Tarai and for shouldering the historic role of issuing the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nepal.

Hazlewood declares himself ready for first Ashes test

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood says he is fit and ready for the Ashes series against England after taking six wickets and coming through a Sheffield Shield match unscathed. The 26-year-old was forced to return from Bangladesh following the first test after picking up a side strain that also ruled him out of a subsequent limited-overs tour of India. Hazlewood showed his injury problems are behind him with a satisfying performance for New South Wales against Western Australia earlier this week and he has been taken out of the team for next week’s match against Queensland.

Election fervor does not grip quake-survivors in Rubi Valley

Although the election to the House of Representatives and State Assembly are just around the corner, the Rubi Valley rural municipality folks do not seem to be excited about the day when their votes could decide the fate of the leaders by exercising their franchise. 

The quake-survivors here are keeping busy reconstructing their quake-damaged houses. Every able person in the village was seen engaging themselves in the reconstruction efforts rather than engrossing in the election-related discussion. 

No candidates vying for the upcoming elections have entered the village yet to woo voters, largely fearing the outrage from the local here for their cavalier attitude toward the post-quake reconstruction efforts. 

Malyam Ghale of Rubi Valley rural municipality-5 was bustling with house building at the place that is at high risk of landslide. Since no choice was offered by the local administration for relocation to safer places, he is building house at the same place where 54 other households are following Ghale's suit. 

Landslides incidents are a common sight here. The road leading to the village was damaged by the Gorkha Earthquake.Villagers kept knocking the doors of the leaders in their district but to no avail. 
The upcoming elections do not seem to enthuse the voters here who had jubilantly cast their ballots in the local level election, expecting to elect the right person who would help address their issues. 

Another such local was Aman Tamang. He shared that locals were irate with the people's representatives who often stay in Kathmandu and do not bother to serve the locals here. 

The leaders of leftist alliance and democratic alliance have not mustered courage to launch election campaign in this village, fearing social scorn and outrage due to their inability to deliver their promises. 

A total of 17 candidates are in fray in the November 26's election to the House of Representatives from Dhading constituency no 2. 

Some 40 hurt in school bus accident

As many as 40 people including school children were injured in an accident involving a school bus at Sukrauli of Ramgram Municipality, Nawalparasi today. 

The bus ( Ga 1 Kha 3189) belonging to the Devjyoti Lower Secondary School of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-6 in Chitwan met with an accident as it was heading toward Lumbini for a picnic from Chitwan via Nawalparasi. The bus turned turtle on a road pothole. 

Most of the hurt have already been sent back home after general treatment at the Prithvichandra Hospital, Parasi while some few have been referred to Chitwan for further treatment, the District Police Office Nawalparasi said. 

A total of 49 people were travelling in the bus when the accident took place. Others were rescued by the police with the help of locals. The cause of the accident has not been ascertained yet, police said.
