KATHMANDU, March 5: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has slapped a cash penalty against eight internet service providers (ISPs) for not abiding by the prescribed rule.

According to the NTA, these ISPs were found selling internet packages without receiving approval from the regulatory body. WorldLink Communications, Vianet Communication, Subisu, Classic Tech, Websurfer Nepal Communication System, CG Communications, Dish Media Network and WiFi Nepal were among the companies that faced action by the NTA.

The NTA has maintained that the ISP companies should have to take prior approval of the regulator to take service charge from their clients. However, the aforementioned companies had been ignoring the guidelines since the last two years.

According to the NTA, it slapped a cash fine of Rs 100,000 to each of these ISP companies. In addition, the authority also asked each of WorldLink, Vianet and Subisu to pay fines of Rs 50,000 for their bundling package services that these companies provided to their clients without taking the regulator's permission during the last Dashain.
