One more arrested from Nepal-India border area in connection with 60 kg gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested one more person in the course of investigation into the smuggling case of nearly 60 kg of gold brought from Hong Kong.

Suman Kharel, who hails from Rupandehi and currently resides in Tokha, Kathmandu, was arrested from Kapilvastu, Nepal-India border area, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Kuber Kadayat, Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police.

He also said that the team of the CIB arrested him from the border area of Kapilvastu and brought him to Kathmandu today.

Earlier, he could not be arrested as he was hiding in India. The police, who were collecting information about him, said that he was arrested after coming to the border area.

A police team has gone to India to collect information on the gold smuggling case, while Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Acharya has gone to Hong Kong. Police said that they are still collecting information about smuggling.

On July 19, the Department of Revenue Investigation seized 60.716 kg of gold from Sinamangal in Kathmandu after the smuggled gold had passed through the customs of the Tribhuvan International Airport. So far, the police have arrested 26 people in the gold case. The smugglers had brought the gold concealed in brake shoes of scooters.
