Police arrest fugitive human trafficker after 9 years

KAPILVASTU, Dec 22 : Police have arrested a person, who was on the run for nine years after he was pronounced guilty by the court in a human trafficking case. Min Bahadur BK Kami aka Arne Maila of Kanchan Rural Municipality-5,  has been  arrested by the police.

According to the judgment of the District Court, Kapilvastu, dated 3rd July, 2017,  he had been handed down 30 years of imprisonment, a fine of Rs 250,000 and Rs 125,000 in compensation to the women victims of human trafficking in the case. 

He was arrested from Buddhanagar, Sainamaina Municipality-5 by police mobilized from Saljhandi. One Salikram BK, in November 2013, allured two women and handed them over to Min Bahadur of Dang. Min Bahadur then took them to a person named Baggi in Punjab, India.  

The victim women, after realizing that they had been sold, managed to run away and return to Nepal. After returning to Nepal, they registered a complaint at Krishnanagar Area Police Office. The police were able to arrest Salikram BK immediately after launching the investigation, while the main culprit Min Bahadur BK who was absconding was sentenced by the court to serve the above-mentioned jail term and pay fine and compensation.
