KATHMANDU, Dec 14: It has been revealed that various manpower consultancies (recruitment companies) have been trafficking people through visit visas with the help of Department of Immigration (DoI) and Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) employees by forging documents.

This information came to light after the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested officials working in the DoI and NAC.

The police have already arrested 32 people for forging documents after investigating the case of human trafficking. Based on the statements of the arrested persons, Narbir Khadka, an officer working in the DoI and Homnath Pokharel, a officer working in the NAC, were arrested.

On Wednesday, SSP Somendra Singh Rathore, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, said, “From October 6, we have arrested 32 members of a gang involved in forging documents and human trafficking on visit visas. Legal actions have been taken against those arrested. Three additional individuals were detained on December 13, and are currently under investigation.”

He added, “Six out of the 32 operate educational consultancies while one is a police officer and another is a former police officer.”

According to him, the employees of the NAC helped to conduct human trafficking on visit visas by colluding with DoI officials. According to the police, they sent people abroad forging documents in the name of visit visas in collusion with Devraj Khanal, the owner of Rolex Travel Agent. It is said that Pokharel took Rs 2 million from Khanal only for sending them abroad in this fashion.
