Prince Dahal finishes as runner-up in Yonex Junior Int’l

KATHMANDU, April 29: Nepal’s Prince Dahal has finished as the runner-up in the U-17 boys’ singles final of the Yonex-Singha Roza BTY Junior International Challenge on Sunday. 

Dahal, who in recent times has been able to get one success after another in international tournaments, has finished in the second place in the U-17 singles in Thailand. 

In the final, India’s Pranbharab Gandham defeated Dahal 21-15, 21-12. 

Dahal has been able once again to make his name popular in the international stage among the rising talents of Nepali badminton. But, he could not cross the last hurdle in the championship and had to be content with the second place. 

The winner of the Dubai Junior International Championship and the International Badminton Championship held in Biratnagar, Dahal, reached the final defeating players from Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, France and India. 

In the tournament held from April 22 to 28, Dahal defeated a Japanese player 21-9, 21-6 in the first round, and saw off a Thailand player 21-7, 21-8 in the second. 

He went on to beat a Malaysia player 21-10, 17-21,  21-11 in the third round, and reached the fifth round defeating another Thai player 21-10,  21-13 in the fourth round. He saw off a French player 21-19, 25-23 in the fifth round and overcame another Thai player 21-13, 21-16 in the quarterfinals. 

In the semifinal match, he saw India’s Bikash Yadav 21-9, 21-13.

Also, in U-19, Dahal saw off a Thailand player 21-12, 25-23, but lost to a Japanese player 15-21,  21-18, 21-12 in the second round.
