KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Lawmakers belonging to ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Center) have said that preparations are underway to file an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana.

NC lawmaker Radheshyam Adhikari and Maoist Center lawmaker Ram Narayan Bidari said the ruling parties are preparing to impeach Chief Justice Rana as this is the constitutional way to find a way to resolve the stalemate seen at the apex court.

Speaking at a program organized in the capital on Friday, both Adhikari and Bidari argued that they had put forth their view right from the beginning that the Chief Justice Rana should be impeached even to establish the fact that justices are also not above the constitution. They also argued that there are enough grounds to impeach Chief Justice Rana to oust him from the top post of judiciary.

"Impeachment motion may be filed against him. The motion must be filed against him. I think it is better that he is relieved from the post through the impeachment motion. Constitutionally, he should be impeached to oust him from power," said NC lawmaker Adhikari.

Maoist Center lawmaker Bidari said that the federal parliament session was summoned for December 24 to impeach Rana. While accusing that Rana was involved in a number of corruption cases and controversial verdicts, Bidari said that an 11-member investigation committee would be formed to probe into the cases of corruption involving Chief Justice Rana.

While stating that the actual work of the impeachment would start from next work, Maoist Center lawmaker Bidari claimed that ruling political parties are currently holding discussions to oust Chief Justice Rana from his post. He said that Rana would be impeached in such a way that he would be denied any privileges from the state in the future and that his properties would be investigated by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
