Senior Citizens' Day: Government committed to effective implementation of subsidies

KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Uma Regmi has expressed her commitment to effectively implement the subsidies provided to the senior citizens in health services, transport services and other public services as per the existing legal provisions.

In a congratulatory message issued on the occasion of the first National Senior Citizens' Day, 2021, she said that she would make continuous efforts to expand and make effective the health insurance program for the treatment of senior citizens.

In her message, she said that the construction work of a well-equipped senior citizens' hospital has been started and the ministry is taking necessary initiatives to build an abuse-free society by conducting necessary social reforms and social awareness campaigns to control the mistreatment of senior citizens.

Regmi said in the message, "The Ministry aims to develop the Senior Citizens Meeting Center to be established at every local level as a place for inter-generational interaction and also for sharing of knowledge and skills of senior citizens."

Senior Citizen’s Day is being celebrated under the slogan 'Identity of Civilized Citizens: Respect for Senior Citizens', commemorating the day when the government started providing social security allowances to the senior citizens realizing their duty towards dignity and respect in their livelihood.
