BIRATNAGAR, May 24: District Court  Morang is to continue  hearing testimony on Thursday from Chudamani Upreti aka Gore, who was allegedly involved in the case of the smuggling 33 kg of gold   and murder of Sanam Shakya.

The testimony that started at noon  Wednesday was not completed even after 5 pm. It is to continue on Thursday, the district court  informed.

According to the court, they recorded a statement from Gore regarding the background to Shakya’s murder. Sources informed that Gore spoke slowly and only a little on the first day. The court was able to record six pages of statement from him.

District Court Morang had filed cases against 63 individuals including Gore on charges of operating criminal gangs, smuggling and illegal trade, kidnapping and murder.

While making his statement, Gore gave  indications of unraveling some mysteries surrounding the case. On the first day, Gore was asked whether  he recognized the names mentioned in the 153-page report listing  all the accused.

Meanwhile, Gore has requested the court to arrange security for him, stating that he has received various threats. The court informed that Gore requested through his lawyers  in the presence of human rights activists to be placed in captivity.

Following his application, the court on Wednesday directed police to provide him necessary security. Morang Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Acharya informed that they have not received any official instruction from the court. However, he claimed that they have already arranged proper security for Gore and he has nothing to fear.

“There could be no reason why he should feel insecure in the hands of the police. We have been providing him special security ever since he was brought to Biratnagar,” said CDO Acharya.
