KATHMANDU, Jan 30: Dal-Bhaat-Tarkari, a traditional Nepali meal comprising rice, lentils, and vegetables, has become widely embraced and integrated into the daily lifestyle of Nepalis, symbolizing the preference for vegan cuisine.

However, sticking to the same menu every day may lead to boredom and tempt individuals to choose unhealthy food alternatives. With the abundant availability and easy accessibility of processed and junk foods, awareness and promotion of vegan food options remain limited.

To promote plant-based living and reduce animal cruelty through veganism, Sneha’s Care is organizing the Kathmandu Vegan Festival 2024 on March 2 in the courtyard of Utpala Cafe located in Bauddha, Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Vegan Festival aims to bring together individuals, businesses, and communities to explore the diverse aspects of veganism.

The purpose of this event is to promote plant-based dishes and also to promote the vegan lifestyle. In this festival, the organization has arranged to place stalls for vegan restaurants and vendors of vegan products to exhibit plant-based food dishes and materials for distribution and sale. Additionally, they have planned to conduct recreational activities with live music, dance performances, documentary screenings, competitive games for children, etc.

Sneha’s Care was established in Lalitpur District, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Ward No-21 in 2015 to do animal welfare works and has been doing various works in the field of animal welfare for the past eight years.

Since 2018, this organization has been conducting various public awareness programs in this regard, since the consumption of a plant-based diet is beneficial for human health as well as the environment and animal welfare.

Under this commitment to animal welfare and reducing animal cruelty, the organization is conducting classes on plant-based diet and animal welfare and humanity in schools. Also, training is conducted for school canteen cooks on vegan dishes, and plant-based diets for women at the community level, and local community so that they can have many ideas about nature’s kitchen.

At the press conference held on  January 30 at Utpala Cafe, Sneha Shrestha, the founder of Sneha’s Care stated, “Right to raise voice against animal cruelty is not only the responsibility of animal activists but a matter of concern for everyone.” She added that the event is aimed to promote veganism and a healthy lifestyle for a noble cause.

For the event, GRASSROOT MOVEMENT IN NEPAL (GMIN) and Nepal Home Stay Tourism Services have collaborated. At the same time, Vegan Travel Asia VegVoyages Foundation has acted as the sponsor of the documentary screening. Likewise, Thrive Philanthropy has provided financial support for other initiatives.
