Sushant KC features on Radio Nagarik

Sushant KC is famously known for his soulful and melodious songs like ‘Aama’, ‘Maya ma, and ‘Timile'. He is in Nepal for vacation and is currently studying in Sydney, Australia at The University of New South Wales.

Born in Kathmandu, KC completed A level from Rato Bangala School. He initiated his career as a lyricist. He then recorded and published his music and collected an overwhelming support by Nepali music lovers.

Since his early days, he has a strong connection with music. Reminiscing his past, he shared, “I remember how I entreated my mom to buy me a guitar when I was a kid. She bought me one soon. Though I didn’t know how to play, I liked simply having it. I got hold of a veteran lyricist and a great soul, Ramesh Dahal through my maternal uncle. Dahal later introduced me to Rahul Pradhan.”

After completing SLC examinations, Sushant collaborated with them and produced songs. While Sushant lent his voice to the songs, Rahul made the music and Ramesh came up with the lyrics. However, his project remained unreleased as he felt something was not right. After graduating from high school, he took a gap year and made music on his own. He contacted Rahul again and made him listen to his compositions. That’s how he made the album ‘Blue Figments’. “Rahul uncle deserves lots of credit for arranging and mastering my songs. From 2017, I began to record, produce and do things on my own.”

KC said that he was focused on his academic goals till 2017 and had no intentions of making music as a career. He didn’t really think about it, although it’s what he adores the most. Initially, he planned to write and play songs on the side. But after releasing a few songs and receiving encouraging feedbacks, he was excited to make music more than ever.

“Despite having to juggle between my studies and music, I enjoy what I do. Some people ask me how I manage to balance my work (music) and my studies. But writing songs and playing it to my audience is not work for me, it’s what I love to do. It is my passion. It keeps me contented,” he shared.

He used to listen to Nepali songs, mostly Nima Rumba and Sarun Tamrakar years back. As he grew up, he got attracted towards western music. “Now I am heavily inspired and influenced by Ed Sheeran. He is my idol,” he said.

Currently, he is trying to explore himself from within. He is coming out with a new song titled ‘Lakshya’. The song is releasing this December. KC has collaborated with a Sydney based producer and rapper, Lil Rock.

“I’m here in Nepal for a few months on vacation. I want to spend time with my family, friends and will hopefully perform for my listeners while I’m here,” he said.
