KATHMANDU, April 8: Teach For Nepal on Friday inducted 70 new fellows as its sixth batch amid a program held at Rastriya Sabha Griha, Exhibition Road to celebrate TFN’s five year journey.

The sixth group joined TFN’s movement as teachers, mentors and change makers will start its two-year fellowship and go to six different districts to continue giving students the equal and qualitative education.   

TFN also inducted 39 of its 2016 fellows to Teach For Nepal Alumni movement upon the completion of their two-year fellowship as teachers in public schools in Lalitpur, Sindhupalchowk and Dhanusa.

The main event was opened by Sangita Jimba, a student from Simle, Lalitpur and a recipient of United World College scholarship to study in Germany (Fall 2018). She shared how TFN changed her life and got the opportunity to study abroad.

“Today marks another important step toward bridging the gap of quality education between public and private schools. We look forward to serving additional number of schools and continuing to work in partnership with the government, schools and our supporters to help reduce educational inequality in Nepal so we can prepare them for the world and make sure Nepal succeeds in the global race,” TFN CEO Shisir Khanal shared while addressing the event.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel lauded TFN for its efforts, and urged people to be part of the initiative by making an effort to sponsor and enrolling at least one student to school this New Year 2075 BS. 

Pokharel stressed that Nepal needed a conduct unique to its needs rather than copying policies and plans of other countries. He also informed about the new rules and regulations the government has been working and promised better days in the education sector are to come. He also promised to deliver textbooks to every student by the day new academic session starts.

Department of Education Director General Babu Ram Poudel and former Minister Gagan Thapa, who is also TFN advisor, praised them for the initiatives.

Different entrepreneurial, science and technological projects that were conceptualized and made by students from different TFN associated schools were put on display. The students also performed different plays and dances during the main event.
