Three killed in truck collision in Makwanpur

MAKWANPUR, July 8: Three people died when two trucks collided with each other and caught fire in Makwanpur's Manahari area along the East-West Highway.

At around 2:50 last night, the truck with registration number NA 6 KHA 6667 en route to Chitwan from Hetauda and another truck with registration number NA 6 KHA 631 on its way to Hetauda collided with each other. Both the trucks caught fire after the collision at Manhari-6, Nayabasti.

Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Makwanpur, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tek Bahadur Karki said that three individuals lost their lives after being crushed and burnt in the accident.

In the incident, the driver of the truck with registration number NA 6 KHA 6667, has been identified as Rihan Rumba Tamang, 28, residing in Rapti Municipality-8, Chitwan, and the co-driver of the same truck has been identified as Suman Chepang, a resident of Gorkha Municipality-2, Gordi Tar. 

In addition, the co-driver of the truck with registration number NA 6 KHA 631, Amrit Praja, 20, a resident of Manhari Rural Municipality-3, Makwanpur, is among those losing life in the accident.

Two people were injured in the accident. The driver of truck number NA 6 KHA 6667 is Bibek Tamang, 35, of Rapti Municipality 3, Chitwan, and the driver of truck number NA 6 KHA 631 Arjun Kumar Praja, living in Manhari Rural Municipality 3, Makwanpur are said to be injured.

DSP Karki informed that the condition of both is normal and they are undergoing treatment. After getting information about the incident, a police team was deployed under the command of DSP Karki from the district and another team led by an Inspector from the District Police Office, Manhari.

A massive fire broke out after the accident. The fire was brought under control with the help of two fire engines of Hetauda sub-metropolitan city. The highway was also closed for about two hours after the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been kept in Hetauda Hospital.
