Time of Narayanghat-Mugling road section closure revised

Road section to be closed from 12:00PM to 4:00PM

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The schedule of closure of the Narayanghat-Mugling road section has been revised.

The Nagadhunga-Mugling Road Project West Section (Narayanghat-Mugling) has issued a notice saying that the schedule has changed.

Vehicular movement has been stopped for four hours every day since Saturday after a hill on the roadside has to be chopped off to build a bridge over the Tuin River along the road.

Initially, the closure was scheduled from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, but it has been revised to now take place from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Krishna Acharya, the project's information officer, explained that the construction of the bridge is imperative due to a potential flood risk at the site. Since creating a diversion is not feasible, vehicle movement is temporarily halted during construction activities.

Among the vehicles going from Narayanghat to Mugling, passenger vehicles will be stopped from Pandhrakilo Bazar to Jugedi while cargo vehicles will be stopped from Bhateri to Ramnagar.

He said that passenger vehicles coming from Kathmandu will be stopped from Mugling Bazaar to Mankamana Cable Car and cargo vehicles will stop at Lewatar. Similarly, passenger vehicles coming from Pokhara will be stopped from Benitar to Powerhouse and cargo vehicles will be stopped at Satrasaya Phant.

According to Information Officer Acharya, in the first phase, the road will be blocked for three weeks and the hill will be chopped off. Although the work was started last year, it was temporarily halted for blasting as the work was difficult because of the hard rock. While making the final preparations for the explosion, the road has been blocked and chopped off again.

More than 10,000 vehicles travel daily through this road, which is the main road to and from the Terai district from the federal capital- Kathmandu.

Chitwan District Traffic Police Office has requested to use an alternative route as vehicles will be stopped for four hours and prevent potential traffic congestion.
