TVC to be administered to 54,000 individuals in Jumla

JUMLA, Dec 23: A total of 54,635 individuals between the age group of 16 to 45 years of the target population of all the eight local levels of Jumla district will be administered Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV).

Giving information about the vaccination campaign at the district level meeting and interaction program, Krishna Sapkota, chief of District public Health Office (DPHO), said, "In the first phase, a vaccination campaign against typhoid will be conducted in Kankasundari, Sinja and Hima rural municipalities from December 24 to December 26 in the district."

“In the second phase, vaccination campaigns will be conducted in Chandannath, Patarasi, Guthichaur, Tila and Tatopani Rural Municipality from December 27 to December 29,” he said. 120 vaccine workers are going to be mobilized for this. There are 240 volunteers and 300 vaccination sessions. Chief Sapkota said that vaccination will be administered only by trained health workers who are selected for vaccination.

Vaccination campaigns will also be conducted in Jajarkot, Rukum West, Dailekh, Jumla, Salyan, Kalikot and Surkhet districts of Karnali province. Dr Purushottam Sedai, the representative of the World Health Organization, stated that TCV is going to be given to the age group of 16 to 45 years. Jajarkot and Rukum West are also scheduled to provide measles and rubella vaccination. Dr Sedai said that the child-maternal mortality rate in Nepal is decreasing due to vaccination.

Lately, typhoid patients are increasing in Nepal. Chief District Officer Jayakumar Ghimire said that the administration should take measures to ensure the success of the vaccination campaign conducted by the government at the national level and to maintain peace and security in the places where the vaccination is conducted.

Coordinator of District Vaccination Coordinating Committee Gaurinanda Acharya said that the role of all the stakeholders in the district from the local level is important to facilitate easily delivery of the vaccine to the vaccination centers in the rural areas of the district. He said that special emphasis should be placed on awareness programs in order to safely manage the state-invested vaccines for the people and to reach the general public.
