KATHMANDU, March 16: Vice chairperson of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) Bamdev Gautam is holding a meeting of the 'National Campaign for Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Unity', which was launched by Gautam a few months ago with the aim to keep the NCP unity intact.

The working committee meeting of the campaign is currently underway at a party venue in Balkhu, Kathmandu.

Biswamani Subedi, a press aide to Vice-chairperson Gautam, said that the working committee meeting will prepare the campaign's strategy in the changed context after the Supreme Court revived the CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) while invalidating the then Nepal Communist Party jointly led by KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal.

Gautam, who also returned to the mother party CPN (UML), is still taking personal initiatives to unify the CPN (UML) and CPN (MC) despite the court's verdict. Even as Gautam is opposing Chairperson Oli's unilateral actions in the party, he has not taken the side of either the Oli-led faction or the Nepal-led faction.

Gautam seems to be equally concerned over the intra-party rift in the ruling CPN (UML) that surfaced after the Oli-led faction of the party took a series of unilateral decisions through a central committee meeting last week. Issuing a press release, Gautam slammed the Oli-led faction for taking unilateral decisions through the central committee meeting.

The campaign led by CPN (UML) Vice-chairperson Gautam has a total of 51 members.
