Update on Tundikhel stampede: 14 discharged, 2 under medical supervision

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Out of the 16 injured in the stampede in Tudikhel on Monday, 14 have returned home after treatment while two are still under medical observation.

According to Dr Badri Rijal, medical superintendent of the National Trauma Center, 14 of the 16 people who were injured in the stampede on Sunday have been discharged, while the other two are under the supervision of doctors.

He said that there is a possibility of discharging them today after looking at their condition.

The stampede took place in separate programs organized by the Magar and Tharu communities at the venue, marking Maghe Sankranti, the first day of the Nepali month of Magh as per the lunar calendar.

The injured were admitted to the Trauma Centre at Bir Hospital for treatment. According to the police, people were injured when they were pushed and shoved while entering and exiting the festival site.

The injured are 12-year-old Trisana Magar, 12-year-old Anjana Tamang, 19-year-old Regina Ghale, 16-year-old Nikita Magar, 30-year-old Rekha Chaudhary, 16-year-old Anisha KC. Similarly, 25-year-old Kalpana Chaudhary, 22-year-old Mandira Basnet, 40-year-old Meena Thapa, 19-year-old Riza Resmi Magar, Constable Prithvi Buda Magar, 25-year-old Nisha Rana Thapa, 22-year-old Nirmala Shrestha, 27-year-old Rashmi Nepal, 11-year-old Unika Baral, 14-year-old Karishma Magar, are also among the injured.
