KATHMANDU, June 17: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched the USAID Auditor General Support Activity.

The USAID Counselor Clinton White amid a program on Friday announced the launch of the program. Under this program, the Office of the Auditor General of the Government of Nepal (OAG/N) and the Center for Audit Excellence (GAO/CAE) under the US Government Accountability Office will be partnering for enhancing accountability and promoting transparency.

Speaking at the program, Counselor White said the initiative had a shared goal of strengthening the ability of the Office of the Auditor General to detect fraud and enhance the implementation of the Government of Nepal’s policies and procedures to ensure transparency and accountability in public finance management.

The collaboration aims to provide training and technical assistance to the OAG/N to improve the quality of audits, effective communication of results, and sustainable capacity-building through coaching and mentoring. “We eagerly anticipate the appointment of an Auditor General who embodies the principles of experience, independence, and leadership,” said Counselor White.

Through the USAID Auditor General Support Activity, USAID/Nepal and the GAO/CAE aim to fortify the OAG/N's ability to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and integrity in Nepal's governance. By harnessing the expertise of GAO/CAE and adhering to international best practices, this collaboration will play a pivotal role in advancing good governance in Nepal.

Counselor White is on a three-day visit to Nepal, where he will meet with the officials of GoN, civil-society leaders, community groups, students, and businesses and will discuss continued collaboration and partnership between the US and Nepal, reads a press release issued by the US Embassy in Nepal.
