GORKHA, Jan 25: Seismometers have been set up at different places of Gorkha district.

The area chosen for installing the instruments for the district which was the epicenter of the earthquake of April 25, 2015, is at risk of earthquake, said geologist Dr Dandapani Adhikari.

The places where the instruments have been set up with financial aid from Tokyo University of Japan, include Aarughat, Aarkhet, Lapubesi, Ghaympesal, Chanaute, Baluwa, Barpak, Laprak and Hanshapur.

"The total 70 seismometers have been installed in Gorkha," Adhikari said.
Earlier last year, a total of 35 seismometers were set up in the area from Rasuwa to Hetauda. Such instruments will also be installed in other April 25 quake-struck districts like Dhading, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchok, Kavre and Dolakha, he added.

He said the instruments measure and locate the ground movement. The results from the reading by the seismometers will be collected in four months and further study will be carried out, he said. RSS
