KATHMANDU, July 01: The US Senate confirmed the nomination of Peter W. Bodde as new ambassador to Nepal on Friday.
The Senate confirmed Bodde´s nomination along with 10 other nominees of President Barack Obama for ambassadorial assignments to different countries. Bodde will succeed outgoing US envoy Scott H. DeLisi, who left Kathmandu four days ago to take up his next diplomatic assignment in Uganda.
Bodde, who joined the US Foreign Service in 1981, has served in Kathmandu twice, most recently as the deputy chief of mission from 1994 to 1997. A fluent speaker of three foreign languages, including Nepali, German and Bulgarian, he also served as attache´ from 1982 to 1984 in Kathmandu.
Among other assignments, Bodde served as Minister Counselor for Administrative Affairs in various countries including in India and as Consul General in Frankfurt, Germany, from September 2002 to February 2006.
