  PM Bhattarai congratulates newly elected India president

KATHMANDU, July 23: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Monday has congratulated Pranab Mukherjee, the newly elected president of India.

During his telephonic conversation with Mukherjee, Bhattarai extended his warm wishes and expressed his optimism of strengthening the bilateral relation between the two countries during his tenure as the president.

Mukherjee was declared 13th president of India on Sunday evening. He beat his only rival P.A. Sangma, a former lower house speaker who was backed by the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Similarly, Ram Chandra Paudel, vice-president of Nepali Congress has also congratulated Mukherjee. Issuing a press statement today, Paudel hoped the two countries would further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation during his term in office.
