  SPORTS BRIEFS: Morgan college awards medalist

KATHMANDU, June 22: Morgan College felicitated the medalist of the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship on Friday at the college premises. Nepal won two silver and three bronze medals during the championship.Anish Shrestha, Mani Lama and Bilas Shrestha won silver medal in junior team event. Shrestha and Lama also bagged silver medal in junior doubles.

Shrestha and Lama pursed Rs 5,500 while Bilas Shrestha bagged Rs 4,000 for the silver medals.

In cadate girls´ team event Swikriti Shrestha, Sonu Thapa Magar won bronze. In junior girls´ team event Sunita Lama, Kajol Rauniyar and Manita Chitrkar bagged bronze medal. In junior girls´ doubles Sunita Lama and Kajol Rauniyar bagged bronze medal. Kathmandu District Table Tennis Association in association with Morgan International College will organize Third Morgan Cup Inter College Table Tennis Tournament from June 28. Tournament will be conducted in seven different categories-men´s and women´s singles, doubles, team events and mix doubles. Organizers informed that participants from 20 colleges will compete in the tournament.

Rai, Limbu clinch gold

KATHMANDU: Umesh Rai and Shanta Maya Limbu bagged gold in the Second Eastern Sound Table Tennis Tournament in men´s and women´s category respectively on Friday. Rai defeated Jeevan Bista 11-13, 11-6, 15-13. Deepak Rai and Ashish Rai jointly clinched third position. In women´s final, Limbu beat Rama Bhattarai 11-6, 11-6 for the gold. Sunita Koirala and Muna Bhattarai finished in the third position. Altogether 30 players from 13 districts had participated in the tournament.
