RASHMI MAHAT

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Alcatel is introducing One Touch 990c smartphone in the domestic market in the next 15 days.

The handset will cost Rs 14,000 each, according to Chaudhary Group (CG), the sole authorized distributor of Alcatel handsets for Nepal.

CG is introducing France-based Alcatel´s CDMA smartphones for the first time in the country targeting rural population, who largely depend on CDMA sets, said Bikash Shrestha, marketing officer of CG.

Alcatel´s One Touch 990c comes with Android 2.3 Ginger Bread operating system, 800 MHz single core processor, 384 MB RAM and 1GB internal memory that can be further expanded to 32GB via microSD cards.

Other features of the One Touch 990c include a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 320x480 pixel resolution and a 3-megapixel flash light camera with video recording capability. The phone also comes with a stereo FM radio and 1,300mAh battery. The phone is also packed with freebies such as instant messaging applications, Google Earth, Google Maps and other mapping applications which make navigation easier for users.

Available in black, red and white colors, the One Touch 990c features a new set of keys right below the screen, which, the company claims, helps the touchscreen work faster compared to other touchscreen handsets available in the market.

"Besides, the phone can also be used as a modem to browse the Internet in laptops and desktop computers," said Shrestha.

CG, which plans to sell around 10,000 units of this phone within a year of its launch, will provide a free R-UIM card worth Rs 300 along with a talk-time balance of Rs 200, with one-year validity, on every purchase of One Touch 990c.
