KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Seventeen political parties including those represented in the dissolved Constituent Assembly have stressed the need of unity among democratic parties to form a national consensus government.

They have decided to mount pressure on the bigger political parties to seek a consensus at the earliest to end the constitution and political crisis.

The fringe parties demanded that the government immediately stop unscrupulous and irresponsible activities.

Organizing a talk programme on ´Threat on Democracy and Our Responsibility´ in the capital on Sunday, the seventeen parties accused the government of obstructing consensus.

Present government is aligned to India, they blamed, adding that all unequal agreements must be scrapped, and the state restructured based on multiple identities.

On the occasion, Chairman of Rastriya Jana Morcha, Chitra Bahadur KC said the government was ruling the country through ordinances and trying to split the country in collusion with the Madhes centric parties.

General Secretary of CPN-ML CP Mainali said the recent activities of the government were weakening our nationality and independence. National consensus government is a must at present, he underscored.

Similarly, Chairman of Chure Bhavar Rastriya Party Keshav Mainali said the government was draining out the exchequer. So, the nationalist and democratic forces need to unite against this ill effort of the government, he stressed.

Chairman of CPN (United Marxist) Lok Narayan Subedi said the present government must be denuded for it was exercising the politics of hatred.

The government was exhibiting an authoritarian character, other leaders said speaking at the programme.

The parties decrying the government were Nepal Communist Party- Mashal, Jana Morcha Nepal, Nepal (Marxist), CPN (United-Marxist), CPN United (Revolutionary), Samyukta Jana Morcha, Nepali Janata Dal, Rastriya Janabadi Morcha, Sashakti Nepal, Samajbadi Janata Party, Nepal Sukumbasi Party (Democratic), Nepali Samajbadi Parisad and others.
