  Clothes, cuts, and designs
  BY ROSHANI DHAMALA

Can you cut this saree and make it into a dress?” a customer enters the room, asking.

“This is simply too beautiful to cut. How often do we get such materials nowadays? Why don’t you have a dress made out of different material,” Amika Shrestha, designer and the owner of Amika’s Attraction, a boutique at Naxal, replies. Amika then pulls out a pen and paper and quickly draws a flowing dress design for her visitor. As her hands work on the design, it seems as though everything comes to her naturally and designs automatically take on incredible shapes.

  • Gopalaya: The recreation of Yonjan's musical magic
    REPUBLICA
KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Music maestro Gopal Yonjan’s timeless music was celebrated at the auditorium of Army Officers’ Club in Sundhara on Saturday amidst enthusiastic audience of varying age groups. Titled ‘Gopalaya—Something Old Something New’, the musical evening saw performances by popular artistes, all singing Late Gopal Yonjan’s compositions. A couple of songs performed at the concert were never unheard of before, and were archived from Yonjan’s old recordings from his home studio. The music for the concert’s performances was rearranged by musicians Sachin Singh, Chand Singh, Bishnu Adhikari and Manoj KC.

The evening started with a musical performance by Anil Shahi and his group, who played Yonjan’s famous instrumental number ‘Ritu Rang’. The second performance came as a surprise to the audiences as Navashree Singh, Gopal Yonjan’s granddaughter, took to the stage performing his ‘Na Phul Chadaye’ synced along with Yonjan’s recorded voice. Navashree also later sang ‘Sansarko Saralaai’, a song that resounds of Yonjan’s utter respect for women.   [More]
