Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Nobel laureate, dies at 87

ASSOCIATED PRESS
MEXICO CITY , April 18: Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez crafted intoxicating fiction from the fatalism, fantasy, cruelty and heroics of the world that set his mind churning as a child growing up on Colombia´s Caribbean coast.

One of the most revered and influential writers of his generation, he brought Latin America´s charm and maddening contradictions to life in the minds of millions and became the best-known practitioner of "magical realism," a blending of fantastic elements into portrayals of daily life that made the extraordinary seem almost routine.   Pack your travel essentials
  BY THE WEEK BUREAU

The happiest traveler is the one who gets much of his/her travel essentials fitted in a manageable portable bag pack. If the trip is just a day long or overnight, it’s usually easier to bag pack stuffs since one doesn’t need much of them. But if you’re traveling for a longer duration, you’re likely to incorporate more stuff in your bag pack. But trying to pick up everything in your bag might make it much heavy and difficult to move about during the travel.
The Week lists down some travel essentials that every traveler should have and ways to pack them into a lighter backpack.

Quick dry shirt and pants

You should avoid carrying clothes that weigh heavy or soak up much water when it gets wet. Jeans are heavier to wear and carry, and cotton pants and shirts take up a lot of time to dry. So light pants, leggings, and quick-dry shirts are the best travel wears. And since they can be easily washed and dried overnight, you won’t need to carry too many clothes. Plus, it’s always good to wear dark clothes during travel since they tend to get or look less dirty.

  • Favorable winds gather behind Nepalis' investing abroad policy
    RUDRA PANGENI
    Analysis

    KATHMANDU, April 17
: The Nepali private sector’s long wait to go around the globe to invest looks likely to be ending soon.
Divergent views amongst the professional and private sector bodies have helped put a proposed Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy that also has provisions for ‘outward investment by Nepalis’ on ice for about a year.

However, with a change in leadership at the private sector’s apex umbrella organization -- the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) -- led by its newly elected president Pradeep Jung Pandey, the policy has received a shot in the arm as Pandey has clearly articulated that he favors the policy. “The policy allows Nepalis to show their expertise abroad in their respective sectors and can also bring better payoffs.”   [More]
