KHOTANG, March 8: A youth was found in a river here at Mewakhola of the district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Salman Dahal, 17 of Diktel Municipality -6.

KATHMANDU, March 8: The United Nations (UN) has welcomes some significant progresses made in addressing gender inequality and women empowerment in Nepal.

 Issuing a press statement on the occasion of International Women Day here on Sunday, UN Nepal Office said many serious challenges and obstacles remain to realizing the agenda set out in the Platform for Action albeit some good strides in addressing gender inequalities for empowerment.

KATHMANDU, March 8: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has urged for solidarity in a campaign to empower women underscoring the government´s commitment to the policy of ´zero tolerance´ towards violence against women while calling for developing a culture for equal treatment.

In his message delivered on the occasion of the International Women´s Day, which falls on March 8, PM Koirala appealed to the government, non government organizations, private sector and the civil society for their contribution to uplift the country so as to make it a counterpart of the developed countries in terms of socio-economic development with insurance of rights.

One Killed As Police, Marijuana Smugglers Exchange Gunshots

CHITWAN, March 7 : A smuggler succumbed to gunshot injuries that was fired by the police to retaliate against a gang of cannabis smugglers here in the Dobhan jungle of the Lothar VDC of the Chitwan district on Friday.

The incident took place as soon as the police team arrived at Dobhan jungle acting on a tip-off that some 50 to 60 marijuana smugglers were gathering at the area.
