PHALEBAS, Oct 1: A team of Armed Police Force personnel has been sent from Chandaka Battalion of the APF in Kushma Bazaar to Mustang to study deployment of APF’s border security force along Nepal-China border in Mustang.
The government is preparing to deploy AFP personnel along the border after China expressed concerns about organized anti-China activities by Tibeten refugees from Mustang.
The team of 25 APF personnel led by inspector Damodar Dhodari has left for Mustang. The size of the border security force will be expanded to 150 after a situation analysis.
Mustang CDO Umesh Kumar Dhakal admitted that preparations were on to deploy AFP along Mustang’s border with China.
So far, there is only one check post of Nepal Police at Lomanthang in northern Mustang for border security.
However, battalion commander of Chandika Battalion SP Srikanta Koirala said the 25 APF personnel were not sent as Border Security Force but they were sent for a regular patrol. He said APF regularly conducts patrols in Baglung, Myagdi and Mustang.
