KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Krishna Basnet of Ramechhap and Chyanglumu Sherpa of Dolakha won Open Road Race during the Hemant Memorial Cup on Tuesday in Jiri, Dolakha.


Basnet covered six kilometers in 20 minutes 12 seconds securing the first position while Prem Lamichhane (Barda Bahadur Battalion) and Keshav Karki finished second and third respectively.

Chyanglumu Sherpa won the women´s two kilometers race in 8 minutes 11 seconds. Bina Jirel and Susmita Khadka of Jiri came behind to secure second and third position in the race.

The top three players in both categories bagged cash Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000.


Selection for SAG karate begins

KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Selection of karate players from Kathmandu district took place at the main dojo of Dasharath Stadium on Tuesday. The selected players will later compete at the national level in order to participate in the 11th South Asian Games scheduled to be held in Dhaka.

Parshuram Bastola and Shanti Lama were selected for the men´s and women´s single ´kata´ respectively.

Likewise, Parshuram Bastola, Laxman Thapa, Rabindra Manandhar and Surya Bahadur Bhetwal were selected for the men´s group kata while Srijana Tamang, Nirmala Tamang, Meena Karki and Sabita Tamang were selected for the women´s group kata.

Rabindra Karki (55 kg), Sandip Gurung (60 kg), Pradip Jung Thapa (67 kg) and Santosh Khadka (75 kg) were selected for the men´s ´kumite´ while Rama Ghimire (55 kg) and Ujjwala Tamang (61 kg) were selected for the women´s.
