  Probe sought into Achham gangrape

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Oct 8: All Nepal Women´s Association Revolutionary (ANWAR) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Bhim Rawal to form a high-level investigation team to probe into the incident of alleged gangrape of a policewoman by her male colleagues in Achham district. A team led by the association´s chairperson Jayapuri Ghartimagar had reached the Home Ministry to submit the memorandum. The delegation of the Maoist-affiliated women´s body asked the minister to bring the guilty to book.

"We demand that the government form a high level investigation committee to probe into the incident and take stern action against the guilty," said Hisila Yami. The delegation comprised over a 10 Maoist women lawmakers and other activists.

Stating that the guilty should not go unpunished, Yami suggested the government taking concrete action as the incidents of rape and violence against women are on constant rise in recent months. Yami lauded the Special Security Plan which has helped improve law and order situation across the country.

On the occasion, Rawal said the police personnel accused of rape had already been suspended and detained. He assured that the ministry would soon form a high-level probe committee. "Incidents of this type are a disgrace to civilized society," said Rawal. "We should work together to ward off such incidents in the future."
