KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Five more persons died in landslides and floods in west Nepal on Thursday, taking the death toll to 51.
Three persons including a village chief of the Maoist died in landslides in Bajhang, one was found dead in Bardiya and one in Salyan.
Our Dhangadhi correspondent reports that Maoists´ Syadi VDC chief Birajit Bohara, 55, and two unidentified persons were killed in a landslide in Bagthala of Baajh VDC. One person is missing while four others were injured in the landslide that buried a shop and tea shop, according to DSP Basanta Panta.
Similarly, Kaushila BK, 7, of Kaprechaur-7 in Salyan died in Nauli river while 52-year-old Kanchha Chaudhary of Fulbari VDC is missing.
Likewise, a body was found by the rescue team of Nepal Army in Bardiya. Bhagwati Upadhyaya, 60, of Bhimapur who was missing after a boat capsized in Karnali on Wednesday has also been found dead, the police said.
Meanwhile, the 22 Nepal Army (NA) personnel who were missing from Bardiya National Park on Wednesday are reported to be safe. However, the army men are still out of contact range.
