PM promises to increase investment in Mustang

DILIP POUDEL

BAGLUNG, Oct 17: Prime Minster Madhav Kumar Nepal has expressed commitment that the government will increase investment in the backward Mustang district. PM Nepal, who arrived in Mustang district Saturday, assured the locals that the government would make additional investment in the Himalayan district to make it attractive for tourists.

PM Nepal said this at a function in Jomsom Airport after paying a visit to the remote Lomanthang in Mustang. Security personnel, civil servants, political party and local NGO representatives were present during the function.

“Foreigners are making massive investments in this district, but the government’s investment is not sufficient,” he said.

He directed the senior civil servants to pay special attention to Upper Mustang. ‘We shall also take initiatives to allocate budget from the center,” the PM added.

The representatives of various political parties in the district requested the prime minister to develop Damodar Kunda and help to promote the commercial aspect of herbs production in the district. They also stressed that if a road link from Mustang to Tilicho Lake in Manang district is built, it will greatly contribute to tourism.

The PM was accompanied by Forest Minister Deepak Bohara and UML leaders K P Sharma Oli, Amrit Bohara, Pradip Nepal, Raghuji Pant and Shrimaya Thakali.
