NUWAKOT, Oct 18: Four young girls have gone missing from the remote Shikharbesi Village Development Committee (VDC) in eastern Nuwakot since past three days.
Maiya Tamang, 14, Mangali Tamang, 13, Tsering Dolma Tamang, 13, and 12-year old Mandaling Tamang were reported missing from Shikharbesi-8, the police said.
District Police Office, Nuwakot, said that although the search for the girls is on, nothing has been known about their whereabouts yet. The local women activists have, however, said that the four could have been taken for trafficking.
Program coordinator of Shakti Group, a local network of women activists, Ashmita Thapa, has raised doubts that the girls could have been taken to be sold in the brothels in India. Thapa is involved in the campaign against domestic violence against women and girl trafficking in Nuwakot.
