DANG, Oct 29: Inmates of Rukum district jail vandalized the prison on Wednesday night after "their demands were not fulfilled".
The jail was vandalized after the inmates fought among themselves over demands. A policewoman and two inmates were injured when two inmates groups exchanged brickbats. “We´d said there should be a peaceful strike,” says Dhan Bahadur Nath, an inmate. “But the other party vandalized the prison.”
Dambar Bahadur Shahi, inmates leader has been kept under custody. The jail has been severely vandalized as the inmates damaged doors and windows and tore cloths and shoes. Although the prison has been vandalized no inmate has been able to escape.
Earlier, the inmates had asked for skill training, newspapers and magazines and organized toilets. They resorted to vandalism over the demands.
