KATHMANDU, Nov 1: The scheduled crucial meeting of the Special Committee for supervision, integration and rehabilitation did not convene on Sunday after Maoists representatives in the committee remained absent.
The meeting was supposed to endorse and enforce the code of conduct for the Maoist combatants and bring them under the command of the committee headed by the prime minister. The technical committee under the Special Committee had last month prepared the code of conduct and proposed a civilian mechanism to bring the Maoist fighters under its command.
“The Maoist representatives were out of contact today
[Sunday] though they had said last week that they would attend the meeting,” said JP Gupta, a member representing Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) of the committee.
Janardan Sharma, who represents the Maoist party in the committee, said he and his colleague Barshaman Pun could not attend the meeting as they had to attend separate programs scheduled prior to the meeting of the committee.
“We were busy in our earlier set programs throughout the day,” Sharma told myrepublica.com over phone from Rukum.
