  Dhankuta tense after UML-Maoist conflict

SIDHHA RAJ RAI

DHANKUTA, Nov 3: Dhankuta district remained tense after the youth wing of the CPN-UML, Youth Force (YF), vandalized and torched Maoists-affiliated offices on Tuesday morning.

Youth Force cadres also thrashed Maoist cadres Gyanendra Karki and Sher Bahadur Baniya. They are undergoing treatment at Sidhuwa Health Post in Dhankuta.

The YF cadres also removed and torched the hoarding board erected at the Maoist party office. The Maoist cadres had vandalized and torched nine motorbikes and a van belonging to the YF on Monday night.

UCPN (Maoist) Dhankuta assistant in-charge Dilliram Rai denied comments saying he would talk later.

The YF has also called for an indefinite strike in Dhankuta demanding punishment to the Maoist cadres involved in the incident. Due to the YF´s call for strike, vehicular movement was affected and the market was closed.

“The guilty should be punished and there should be compensation,” Youth Force Dhankuta co-ordinator Pravin Pokharel said.

According to Pokharel, a group of 20 to 25 Maoists set fire on nine motorcycles and a van parked inside a house on Monday night.

Meanwhile, the U-CPN Maoist has started collecting details of the VDC secretaries, who have not been carrying out their duties from their respective offices in Dolakha. The Maoists started this campaign, after many VDC secretaries remained absent from their offices.
