  Samsung claims world's thinnest LCD
Narayani National commences operation after merger

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: South Korea-based Samsung Electronics has developed the world´s thinnest LCD panel that will be used in televisions, the company said in a statement Tuesday. Samsung said the technology will be used in LCD TVs with LED (light emitting diode) backlights.

According to the statement, the company employed a ´super-shrink technology´ to make the panels. "The technology uses a combination of 3.9-millimeter thick glass and ´needle slim´ technology to achieve the largest viewing area within the smallest outline dimensions," it said, adding that the company had developed core components and realigned the backlight unit structure with its edge-lit LED backlighting offering lighter weight and thinner designs.

Amitesh Roy, brand manager for Samsung at Him Electronics, the authorized distributor of Samsung for Nepal, told myrepublica.com that televisions using the new panels are expected to be available in Nepal in 2010.
