NEPALGUNJ, Nov 3: A woman accused of killing her own four-month old daughter told prosecutors that she carried out the heinous crime as her husband and in-laws tortured her for not giving birth to a son.
According to police sources, Mahima BK from Naubasta-1 mentioned in her statement that her husband had thrashed her before she strangled the baby on October 26.
She had fled home after killing the baby and took shelter at her sister´s home nearby. She was arrested from her sister´s house after the police found the dead body of her child in Jethi Khola.
The 28-year-old mother, who is a mother of three daughters, also said that she decided to “wipe out the root of problem” after her husband, Jay, thrashed her when she asked him to take the baby, who had been ill for a couple of days, to the doctor. The couple had moved from Jajarkot last month to settle in Naubasta.
However, Jay denied her allegation of torture. Banke Police Chief Raj Kumar Baidawar said that Mahima would be charged of murder though she apparently committed the crime to avoid further torture from her husband and in-laws.
