  Chabahil accident talks fail

KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Chabahil area remained tense on Friday as well after negotiations between the relatives of three persons killed by a bus on Thursday and the Swayambhu Yatayat Samiti, which operated the bus, did not reach any conclusion.

Two separate meetings between the two sides failed to reach an agreement while the relatives of the victims warned of stepping up protests. Chabahil area remained tense and police sealed the area for two hours in the afternoon to bring the situation under control.

CA member Arjun Rai from Khotang had led the relatives´ side in the negotiations. He insisted that the case was not going to be settled unless Rs 1 million compensation was provided to the families of each victims. Meanwhile, office bearers of Swayambhu Yatayat took a stand in pursuing the government provision of third party insurance of Rs 0.5 million to the victims´ families.



Nagendra Chaudhary and Dhaniram Chaudhary of Bara and Rama Rai of Khotang were killed after the passenger bus (Ba 2 Kha 850) climbed onto the sidewalk and hit them on Thursday.

In the protests that followed, an angry crowd torched three vehicles, all belonging to Swayambhu Yatayat, including the one that killed the pedestrians.
