  Pandey requests China for support

KATHMANDU, Nov 8: Finance Minister Surendra Pandey has asked China to support Nepal for planned development of cities in Nepal.


Speaking during the meeting with high-level Chinese delegation at Finance Ministry on Sunday, Minister Pandey also stressed on the need to take advantage of economic advancement of the northern neighbor for the economic benefit of Nepal. The delegation led by Liu Jun, vice-president of Yiwu Municipal Committee of Chinese People´s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), is in the capital.

During the meeting, Liu said Yiwu Municipal Committee was interested to invest in the sector which are viable in Nepal. Liu also informed of the tremendous market for Nepali handicraft products in China.

On the occasion, Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, president of Nepal China Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said the chamber would play vital role in strengthening economic, trade and technical cooperation between the two countries.


FNB holds formal gathering

KATHMANDU, Nov 8: Forum of Nepalese Banks (FNB), which was established on June 16 with the objectives of fairly representing banks and lobbying for the interest of all stakeholders in banking system, organized its first formal gathering in Kathmandu on Friday.

The gathering was attended by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, former finance minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, chief secretaries of government, Governor Bijay Nath Bhattarai, deputy governors and senior executives of Nepal Rastra Bank, officers of various leading commercial banks and country representative of International Monetary Fund among others, according to a press statement issued by FNB.


NLIC to open 11 branches

KATHMANDU, Nov 8: Insurance Board has granted permission to National Life Insurance Company Limited (NLIC) to extend its business by opening additional eleven branches.

As per existing insurance regulation, the board has permitted NLIC to open branches in Darchula, Damauli in Tahahun, Salyan, Dadeldhura, Chainpur in Bajhang, Tikapur in Kailali, Ilam, Dailekh, Charikot in Dolakha and Bidur in Nuwakot. NLIC has branches and sub branches in 22 locations across the country.
