KATHMANDU, Nov 9: Nepali and Chinese officials have agreed to operate Kathmandu-Lhasa-Kathmandu flights by designated Nepal Airlines. They also agreed to operate Canton-Lhasa-Kathmandu flights by Chinese Airlines. The agreement was reached during the Third Joint Tourism Coordination Committee Meeting on Monday.


The meeting also decided to promote a joint rafting industry by the private sector of both sides, develop an action plan to establish a trekking route from Lomanthang of Nepal to Mansarovar of Tibet.

During the meeting, the Nepali delegation was led by Murari Bahadur Karki, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Wang Songping, Deputy Director General of Tibet Tourism Administration led the Chinese delegation.



“Both sides realized the fact that these events would be instrumental in paving the way of accruing mutual benefits through tourism,” states a press release issued by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

Besides reviewing the progress of the previous meetings, the Nepali side communicated the draft of the proposed Memorandom of Understanding to be signed between NTB and Tibet Tourism Administration (TTA) for joint promotion of tourism.


World Expo pavilion to be over by March 2010

KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The construction of Nepal Pavilion, spread over 3,600 square meters and mainly featuring Buddha Stupa, for the upcoming World Expo 2010 in Shanghai is expected to complete by March 2010. The pavilion will cost Rs 300 million.

According to a press release distributed at the press conference organized by the expo organizers on Monday, "Tales of Kathmandu City" will be the theme of Nepal´s presentation at the expo, which is projected to lure 70 million visitors during the six-month long exhibition starting from May 1, 2010.

The expo with official theme of ´Better Life and Better City´ will be held in China´s industrial city of Shanghai.

Speaking at the program, Huang Jiaazhi, deputy director of Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, briefed the media on the latest progress of preparations for the expo and said that 242 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation.

He also highlighted the warm relations between Nepal and China and thanked the government of Nepal for its keen interest on the expo.


Sipradi opens new service center

KATHMANDU, Nov 9: A new authorized service center of Sipradi Trading Pvt Ltd -- Mahalaxmi Motors Pvt Ltd -- was opened at Mahalaxmisthan of Lalitpur along the Ring Road on Monday. Shambhu Prasad Dahal, chief executive officer of Sipradi Trading, inaugurated the service center.

Sundar Maharjan, proprietor of the newly opened service center, said a five-day free service camp will be launched from Tuesday. Nabin Chawala, country manager of Tata Motors, expressed hope that the customers will get better services from the newly opened service center.
