  Swine flu terror shuts school

AMAR KHADKA

ITAHARI, Nov 10: A school in Inaruwa, Sunsari, has been closed for four days on Tuesday due to fears of swine flu after students suddenly started falling ill.

Seven students of Janak Smriti School had complained of headache, flu and eye irritation two days ago. The school has been closed following advice of guardians after 30 more students showed similar symptoms on Tuesday.

“We had to close our school as many students started showing symptoms of swine flu,” said principal Niraj Nepal, adding, majority of the sick are from class 2-7. However, students in other schools of Inaruwa have not shown such symptoms.

Nepal said Dr Saroj Kumar Yadav of Sunsari District Public Health Office was summoned to the school for checkup.

Dr Yadav said it was common influenza and not swine flu. “The problem has arisen due to changing season,” Dr Yadav assured. He has urged the guardians not to panic. They, however, are not ready to be convinced.

The guardians have been treating their wards at local clinics, while one Riwaz Shrestha has been taken to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan for treatment.
