BIRTNAGAR, Nov 10: Industrial Organization Morang (IOM) is organizing an agro, tourism and industrial trade fair, naming the same as Birat Expo, in Biratnagar from 19 to 25 January, 2010.
The Expo will be organized in Sahid Stadium of Biratnagar, and the organizer said it mainly showcases industrial equipment, particularly agro-based equipment, and also various industrial productions along with information technology (IT) and tourism products.
“We have already started preparations for the fair,” said Bhim Ghimire, coordinator of the fair organizing committee, adding that the Expo will have participation from the major international agro-equipment producers and suppliers.
Mainly, industrial equipment suppliers and producers from India, China and Bangladesh will showcase their products in the fair, which, according to the organizer, will have a total of 160 stalls.
“Through this expo, our aim is to familiarize local entrepreneurs with the new industrial and agro-based technologies, paving way for the introduction of more sophisticated an efficient technology in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors of the country,” said Ghimire.
The Expo will also display goods such as agricultural and industrial productions. Agro-inputs, fertilizers, livestock, chicken, honey, dairy products, automobiles, garment, herbs, handicrafts, information technology products and services are few among them.
The organizer has said it is investing Rs 4.26 million for the event and expects the transactions during the expo to cross over Rs 150 million. Of the total cost, IOM will be recouping Rs 1 million from renting the stalls alone.
The organizing committee is planning to collect entry fee of Rs 10 from each visitor and has projected some 200,000 people to visit the fair.
“We expect visitors from neighboring Indian states like Bihar and West Bengal as well,” stated Shyam Paudel, joint-coordinator of the organizing committee, adding that Nepali participants in the Expo will comprise farmers, industrialists and service providers from Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Jhapa, Siraha, Udayapur and other hilly districts.
District Development Committee, Morang; Biratnagar sub-metropolitan city office; Regional Livestock Services Directorate; Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Nepal Tourism Board are supporting the IOM for the event.
