  Chicken price falls further

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Nov 13: The price of chickens has further gone down by Rs 10 per Kg, thanks to contunied supply improvement. With this latest price ease, consumers can now buy chicken at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 190 kg set earlier. A joint meeting of the Kathmandu Valley based chicken farmers, sellers and feed producers held on Thursady decided to lower down the price that will be effective from Friday.

According to Narayanhari Khatri, President of Animal Feed Producers Association, the price has gone down particularly due to the improved supply of chickens from the Tarai. The price that farmers obtained through chicken farming has also lowered down. With the revision in price, chicken rearing farmers will now receive Rs 120 per kg. Consumers will, however, have to pay Rs 130 for live Chickens.

"Chickens have been flowing in high numbers in comparison to their demand and this has caused the price to fall down", says Junga Bahadur BC, president of National Chicken Sellers Business Association. Though the price has fallen down, association stressed that farmers are not bearing any loss. Gokarna Ghimire, a farmer says that they are neither gaining profits nor are into loss.

During the period of one-and-a-half months the price of chicken meat has lowered down by Rs 50 per kg that was as high as Rs 235 during Dashain. During Dashain, businessmen got Rs 170 per kg for live chicken. The inflow of chickens from places like Kavre, Nuwakota and Dhading has also added to the decrease in price.
