  Keshari jumps a record

KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Nepal Police Club´s Keshari Chaudhary set a new national record in women´s high jump on Monday. Chaudhari leaped up 1.56 meters in the final performance test for selection for the upcoming South Asian Games at the Dasharath Stadium.


Keshari had a previous record of 1.50 meter in her name. She had set the record in the initial selection for SAG. Keshari had another record of 1.55 meters in the tournament organized by Gorkha Runners´ Club. However, Nepal Armature Athletics Association does not recognize the record. Maoist combatant Sita Hajam jumped 1.40 meters.

Meanwhile, Bal Krishna Chaudhary, an Armed Police Force person, and Nepal Army´s Surya Khatri jumped 1.95 meters in men´s high jump.

However, NPC´s Dhruba Narayan Uraw crossed 13.80 meters in men´s triple jump whereas army´s Dilli Khatri crossed 13.65 meters.

In men´s 110-meter hurdle, NPC´s Dhirendra Chaudhary had the best timing after finishing the dash in 15.57 seconds. Santosh Shrestha of APF covered the distance in 16.17 seconds while army´s Shovakanta Jamarkattel clocked 16.23 seconds.

In women´s 100-meter hurdle, APF´s Aarati Pathak clocked 18.52 seconds to stand ahead of another APF´s athlete Sunita Tamang who finished the hurdle in 18.90 seconds.

Pramila Rijal of APF Club clocked 26.41 seconds in women´s 200-meter whereas NPC´s Sabitri Nepali tumbled down at the finishing line.

In men´s 200-meter, Tilak Ram Tharu from Nawalparasi clocked 22.63 seconds while Bali Ram Chaudhary from Chitwan followed him at 22.70 seconds. Hari Ram Chaudhary of Nepal Army completed the hurdle in 22.87 seconds in the event.

Similarly, while army man Hari Rimal covered 1,500-meter race in 4 minutes 3.76 seconds, another army man Letter Singh Khatri clocked 4 minutes 6.74 seconds.

According to Narayan Dev Yadav, the chief coach of athletics, players´ performance in training and test will determine the selection. ´´Name of the selected players will be made public on Tuesday," said Yadav. He informed that 22 atheletes from 33 players, who are in training, would be selected for SAG.
