Selections of judo, karate, shooting, wrestling continue Taekwondo selection postponed

KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Seven judo players have been selected for the upcoming 11th South Asian Games on Monday. Five Nepal Police personnel, four Nepal Army persons and four players from Kathmandu as well as one each from Banke, Parsa and Lalitpur competed in the final selection round in Kathmandu.
According to Nepal Judo Association, policemen Parshuram Chaudhary qualified in 60kg weight category and Ramesh Magar in 66kg category. Kathmandu´s Dipak Shrestha has been selected in 73 kg, Rajan Joshi in above-100 kg and Banke´s Raju Shrestha in 90 kg category.
Shree Ram Makaju of Nepal Police qualified in 81kg category while Army´s Kalu Man Tamang has been selected in under-100 kg category.
Karate selections
Nepal Police Club topped the qualification chart in karate on the first day of selection tournament for the 11th South Asian Games in Hetauda on Monday.
NPC´s Subhadra Shrestha qualified for the women´s single kata. Subhadra again teamed up with Chanchala Danuwar, Sangita Dangol and Suman Lama and qualified for the 11th SAG.
In men´s group kata, NPC´s Ganesh Bahadur Thing, Kedar Simkhada, Mandekaji Shrestha and Nir Bahadur Moktan booked the ticket for Dhaka SAG to be held from January 29 to February 9.
Parshuram Bastola of Central Region qualified in the men´s single kata.
The selections in four different categories of kumute will conclude on Tuesday.
Shooting, wrestling selections begin
The selection tournament of shooting for the 11th South Asian Games began at Satdobato Shooting Range on Monday.
According to Nepal Shooting Association, 41 players in 12 events are competing to secure place for competition in the upcoming SAG. Altogether 12 players will qualify for SAG.
Likewise, selection tournament for wrestling kicked off at Chandra Binayak Park, Chabahil, on Monday.
Taekwondo selection postponed
Meanwhile, Nepal Taekwondo Association postponed the final selection of players for the 11th SAG citing technical problem. The selection that was scheduled to begin on Monday got stalled as mat did not arrive on time at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium.
The Association´s meeting chaired by Deep Raj Gurung decided to reschedule the selection process for Wednesday. It is learnt that the meeting postponed the selection arguing that the players would be psychologically affected by the poor management of the association.
Six men and four women will participate in the SAG for Taekwondo.
