Youth golf coaching concludes Signature Club Golf to kick off on Nov 21

KATHMANDU, Nov 19: The final phase of the Surya Nepal NGA Youth Golf Coaching Program concluded on Thursday. The three-phase training for 10-21 years youths started on June 18.
Altogether 197 potential players from five golf courses -- Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, Royal Nepal Golf Club and Army Golf Club from Kathmandu, Himalayan Golf Club from Pokhara and Nirvana Country Club from Dharan -- were selected for first phase training. The trainees included 160 boys and 34 girls.
Among them, 42 talented players were selected for the second phase training held in the capital on November 15 and 16.From this pool, 27 best players were selected for the final round Camp of Excellence held from November 17-19 in the capital. Brandon de Souza, the MD and CEO of the Tiger Sports Marketing and Golf Consultant along with local coaches conducted the final phase training.
From the last phase, Dinesh Prajapati, 19, Sanjiv KC, 19, and Sonam Lama, 10, were adjudged the top three players. They were awarded with golf kits and attractive prizes at the RNGC on Thursday. They will be given chances to play Surya Nepal Golf Tour as amateur players. The Surya Nepal will bear all the expenses for their tour.
The managing director of the Surya Nepal Sanjiv Koshab, marketing manager Avijit Chakrawarti, brand manager Ishwar Gautam, NGA General Secretary Tashi Ghale and NPGA president Rabindra Man Shrestha handed over the prize to the winners and certificates to the participants of the training.
Signature Club Golf to kick off on Nov 21
KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Signature Club Golf Championship is set to kick off in Nepal on November 21.Gokarna Golf Resort Club will represent Nepal in the tournament.
Organizers, at a press conference held on Thursday, informed that the tournament is being played in the Power Play golf format for the first time. The intra club round of the tournament will be held at Gokarna. Six top players from the tournament will qualify for the next regional round.
The club team will play in the regional finals at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club on December 8. The selected teams will face-off to decide the champion club from the Eastern region, who will battle it out with representatives from Southern, Western and Northern regions in the all-India final to decide the champion golf club of India. According to the organizer, the final will be played at the Blue Canyon Golf Club in Phuket on December 16.
Around 80 golfers are expected to vie for six spots in the Gokarna Golf Resort Club, while 7,000 amateur golfers from 43 clubs across 30 cities will be featured in the tournament.
In the Power Play format, there are only nine holes and every hole has two flags. While the white flag is placed at an easy location, the black flag at is placed at a difficult position. Golfers must play three power plays between 1-8 holes and will have an option of going for a bonus power play on the ninth hole. The scoring will be done on a stableford point system as one point for net bogey and 2 points for net par.
TIA basketball from Friday
KATHMANDU, Nov 19: The Seventh TIA Akira Cup Inter-school Basketball will kick-off on Friday at the court of hosts Trungram Int´l Academy, Bansbari.
In total, 27 teams, including 18 in boys´ and nine in girls´ category, will participate in the nine-day long tournament to be held under the league-cum-knockout basis.
The winners and the runners up of both categories will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 along with shields, medals and certificates.
The expected cost of the tournament is Rs 225,000.
