KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Nepal will face the defending champions of the sixth SAFF Championship Maldives in the first match that will be held in Bangladesh.


The championship is slated for December 4 to 14 while Nepal´s first match will fall on December 5. Nepal will compete with other members of the group, including four-time champions India, on December 7 and Afghanistan on December 9.

The other group includes teams of hosts Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bhutan.

The inaugural match will be held between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Two leading teams will enter the semifinals after the round robin league.

Nepal´s biggest feat in the SAFF has been to enter the semifinals during the second edition of the championship held in Goa in 1999. Besides that, Nepal have always lost the championship in the first round.


Valley Public´s impressive show in basketball

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: The girls´ team of Valley Public got through four matches on Saturday during the Seventh TIA Akira Cup Basketball Championship being held at the court of Tungram International Academy (TIA), Hattigaunda.

The girls´ team A of Valley Public won two matches and got a walk-over in another while team B triumphed in one match.

Valley Public A defeated Mahendra Bhavan 31-15 in the first match. In another match, the same team got an easy win of 22-8 over the host TIA while they earned a walk-over from Gillette. Valley Public B ousted Manjari 18-10.

Likewise, in another match of the girls´ team, Prithvi put down Anmol Jyoti 23-2.

Valley Public also bagged two victories in the boys´ game. In the first match, they defeated Manjari 45-24 while they disappointed the hosts TIA 53-37 in another match.

In other matches of the boys´ teams, Prithvi beat Grand Academy 41-29 while Awareness International defeated Anmol Jyoti 35-21.


KCTC cricket from Sunday

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: The First KCTC Inter School Cricket Championship, organized by Kathmandu Cricket Training Center, is to be held from Sunday to Thursday at Lab School´s ground in Kirtipur.

Ten schools, namely LRI, Trijyoti, Dreamland, Wilson Academy, Greenland, Galaxy, Brihaspati, Rajan Memorial, Nightingale and Birendra Sainik, are participating in the tournament.
