KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Rabi Khadka won the Surya Nepal Western Open Golf Tournament held in Himalayan Golf Course Pokhara on Tuesday. Rabi defeated Shiva Ram Shrestha in play-off as their scores tied after the third and final round.
Rabi finished the last round on nine over 82 while Shiva Ram finished it on seven over par 80. After the completion of the final round, they tied at total score of 234. However, Rabi proved to be lucky as he beat Shiva Ram in play-off.
In play-off, Rabi completed both first and second hole on par but Shiva, who finished first hole on par, completed second hole on double bogeys.
Surya Prasad Sharma carded eight over par 81 on Tuesday to gain third place of the tournament with the total score of 239. Leader of the first round Rajan Thapa registered seven over par 80 and tied with Surya for the third spot.
Among the professional golfers, Deepak Thapa Magar and Ramesh Nagarkoti had a good final round performance on Tuesday. Deepak and Ramesh carded four over par 77 in the final round. However, Deepak finished the tournament in the fifth position with a total score of 245 while Ramesh carded a total 252 and finished in the ninth position.
Rupak Acharya topped the score chart of amateur golfers as he played total 237 strokes to complete the three rounds. Rupak had a fine final round as he played three over pars 76. Pradeep Kumar Lama remained 24 strokes behind Rupak in the amateur´s category.
Winner Rabi bagged Rs 72,000 cash prize while Shiva Ram got Rs 46,000 for the second position.
A total of 20 professionals won cash prize. Chief Advisor and Former President of Nepal Professional Golfers´ Association Ghana Shyam Thapa, President of Kaski District Golf Association Lachhim Prasad Gurung and Vice President of Kaski District Golf Association Madan Gurung gave away the prizes and trophies to the winners
