  Disruption in Mechi Highway

REPUBLICA

ILAM, Feb 5: Three labor unions in Ilam and Jhapa shut down the Mechi Highway to protest the manhandling of their colleague.

The shutdown disrupted vehicular traffic along the highway from early Friday morning.

The unions are protesting the manhandling of the drivers of vehicles (Me 1 Ja 818, 639 and 562) on Wednesday evening by a group that identified itself as ´Limbuwan´.

The same group also attacked Ganesh Aryal, a journalist, who had reached there to cover the incident.

Kesang Lama, vice-chairman of Nepal Transport Workers´ Association, Ilam chapter, said the shutdown had to be enforced after the administration failed to book assailants even after repeated cases of manhandling of transport workers.
