  Twin golds for Police in weightlifting

MAHENDRANAGAR, Feb 27: Kabita Chaudhary of Eastern Region won the gold medal in women´s 48 kg of weightlifting on the day Nepal Police Club´s Devi Kumari Chaudhary broke the national record in women´s 54 kg weight category here in Mahendranagar.

Kabita won gold lifting 48 kg in snatch and 55 kg in clean and jerk for a total weight of 103 kg.

Asha Chaudhary of Nepal Police Club lifted 42 kg in snatch and 55 kg in clean and jerk to take silver, while Tika Maya Gurung of Western Region lifted 37 kg in snatch and 47 kg in clean and jerk to claim the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Bikash Thapa of Nepal Police won gold in men´s 62 kg weight category. Thapa lifted 107 kg in snatch and 120 kg in clean and jerk. Rabi Lal Chaudhary of Far-western Region and Konoj Tandukar of PLA Sports Club claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.

In men´s 56 kg weight category, Manoj Yadav of Central Region clinched gold lifting 78 kg in snatch and 95 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 173 kg. Laxman Ranjit of Nepal Police and Shiva Narayan Chaudhary of Far-western Region took silver and bronze respectively.

Taekwondo

Central Region clinched two gold medals in taekwondo on Monday in Mahendranagar, while PLA Club and Nepal Police won a gold each.

In women´s 46 kg weight category, Rejina Karki of Central Region won gold defeating Sangita Shrestha of Armed Police Force 8-6 in the final. Binita Tamang of Eastern Region and Reshma Thapa of PLA claimed bronze medals.

Likewise, Nisha Rawal claimed the second gold in taekwondo for Central Region in women´s 73 kg weight category. She defeated Dipu Dulal of Mid-western Region in the final. Radhika Shrestha of Nepal Police took the bronze medal.

In men´s 54 kg weight category, Chandra Rana Magar of PLA defeated Basant Saud of Far-western Region 9-1 in the final to claim the gold medal. Nisham Ambule Rai of Eastern Region and Mingma Lama of Central Region claimed bronze medals.

Ram Giri of Nepal Police won gold in men´s 87 kg as he defeated Gopal Patuwar of APF 12-0 in the final on Monday. Arjun Maharjan of Central and Bikky Gubhaju of Mid-western Region received bronze medals.

Men´s volleyball

Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force on Monday won their first matches in the men´s volleyball event held at the Mahendranagar Volleyball Training Center. Nepal Police defeated Central Region 25-15, 25-18, 25-14 while PLA Sports Club beat University team 22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 in Group A. In Group B, Far-western Region defeated Mid-western Region 28-26, 25-13, 25-10 while APF thrashed Western Region 25-12, 25-14, 25-18.

Men´s kabaddi

Central Region and Western Region won their respective matches in men´s kabaddi in Mahendranagar on Monday. Central pulled off a 37-20 victory over Eastern Region while Western Region thrashed Mid-western Region 45-8.
